Fireside Chat #1
Hello all, the following is a quick summation of what was discussed in our first Chat.
New Clear Shores
First, we are now in a new location, generally called the New Clear Shores. After all of the wars in Jericho, the Raider clans that had threatened Jericho in the past took advantage of the weakened forces and invaded. Those left there are: cattle, Raiders or barely clinging to a terrible existence.
However, the Society of Merit and some DJ clans began to notice that, to the north, the place called the New Clear Shores, known for heavy radiation and poor radio signals, seemed to be avoided by Raiders and a small party went there to check things out. Their reports afterwards included talks of mobile Radioactive areas of various intensities, strange and new Critters, a fair number of Zed, friendly locals AND a group of religious zealots calling themselves the Temple of Evolution. They bathe in the radiation and think the area isn’t radioactive ENOUGH.
Impact and Development Skills
We discussed the differences between Impact and Development skills (Pages: 30-34 in the Players Guide) with a particular focus on:
Double Tap
First Aid
Awareness
Avoid
Stealth
We also talked about the importance of shepherding your Impact skills during a combat.
Overview of Strains
We followed up with a review of all Lineages and Strains in the Players Guide (Pages: 20-28 ) as well as a brief discussion of Strained Ancestry, primarily the Civic Retrograde and the Wasteland Iron.
Technology Overview
We followed with a read through and review of this from the DR Live website: https://www.dystopiarisinglive.com/game-technology
It is a great one page overview of how technology works in the game, and genre limitations, etc. and we recommend people review it periodically.
Combat Lessons
There was a brief discussion of lessons learned by Eric so far as both Writer and a Player:
Writers and Ops/Rules Guides need to be aware of the 20 minute refresh on Impact skills and how constant pushing by Zed (or other respawns) can make fights VERY hard.
Eric and others’ player experience at a Dystopia Rising :Maryland game and the need to shepherd Impact skills like Double Tap very carefully.
Topics for the Next Fireside Chat:
Finally, the attendees were asked to pick the topic for the next Chat and selected:
Medical
Faith
Crafting
Development Skills
Econ
Thank you for reading, and we hope to see you at the next fireside chat! (Every other Thursday on our Discord.)
