Granfalloon

Discovered shortly after the Eden Restoration Society attempted to rebuild Eden. Granfalloon is a corruption of ones infection and NOT A DISEASE. This corruption of the infection was first seen at the dig site of Old Eden, when the mining camp was overrun by a shambling hoard of zed repeating the phrase, “I’m sorry.” Those returning from the morgue found that their skin had discolored around their eyes to form what appears to be an infinity symbol with an X over the center and a single colored stripe over the right eye. No attempt to remove or hide this discoloration has been successful to date.

Those with this mark began to feel compulsions to move against their will, eventually becoming just as the hoard that killed them, a shambling zed only capable of repeating the phrase “I’m sorry” over and over again.

While in this state, those with the mark found themselves attacking specifically people who had some form of meaningless similarities, like wearing a hat or the same colored shirt. This lead to the corruption being named “Granfalloon”.

Granfalloon being defined as “a group of people who affect a shared identity or purpose, but whose mutual association is meaningless”. Locals often will shorten this to “Gran’er” for ease of speech.

At first, the only way to break someone out of the their trance-like state, or “activation” as some would call it, was to kill the individual. Those killed while “activated” would find themselves emerging from the Morgue, still marked and remembering every horrible act they committed, but no longer “activated”.

In recent months, through the combined efforts of the citizens of Jericho Junction and Arcland Solutions, a new method was found to break the trance and deactivate a person without killing them. This temporary cure requiring 1 Master healing brew of the particular strain you intend to cure, 1 piece of Crystal Candy, and fluids extracted from a Nightmare Lurker that bears the mark of the Granfalloon.

As time has gone on since the first corruption, many of those who carry the corruption have learned to use their connection to the Granfalloon and temporarily force their activation, giving them added strength and resilience for a brief period of time while still maintaining some level of control. Those who have done this warn that doing so too frequently can lead to the corruption intensifying, and putting you one step closer toward becoming stuck in that uncontrollable state forever.

  • These are the living lineages that have been given the “Gift” of Granfalloon corruption. They cannot give their “Gift” to others, but they can willfully use the “Gift” when not forcefully linked to the Granfalloon Horde. Overuse of this “Gift” can cause them to become “Corrupters” and begin to spread the corruption.

  • When a living lineage abuses the powers of their “Gift”, they become corrupted by it, slowly turning feral and actively hunting people to spread their “Gift” by force. This is done by the Corrupter killing and consuming their target. Those killed in this brutal fashion return from the Morgue as a Gran’er.

  • When the temporary cure for Granfalloon is applied to a Corrupter, they become a Disjointed. A Disjointed cannot use their “Gift” any longer, unless they are forcefully activated by the Granfalloon horde.

  • Powerful undead, marked by the Granfalloon, they serve only one purpose, to spread and multiply. Macrophage can be any type of zed, but are often seen in higher level threats, like Tanks, Nightmare Lurkers, and Weepers.
